Joe and Wendy bought their property in the year 2000.
It was originally part of Mistlea which was divided into 3 parts. We bought the middle section of it. The property had been overgrown for at least 15 years prior and was completely overgrown with wattle trees. We literally crawled through it on our hand and knees. We were certain that it would have a nice view of the mountains.

Every school holiday thereafter we came to Hogsback from the West coast and worked on our property with our daughters Kirsten and Natalie, pulling out and clearing Wattle. We would be so overwhelmed when we arrived at how quickly the wattle grew and by the time we left we would be in awe at the beautiful views, trees and shrubs that were being uncovered and rescued. Oak trees,Maple trees, azaleas and rhododendrons, lillies everywhere, yellowwoods, dogwoods, boekenhout, hawthorn, silver birch, liquid amber,Chinese elm, cedars and so much more. We also planted a lot of new plants, especially more indigenous plants like proteas, ericas, leucadendrons etc.

We started our fruit orchard and planted a variety of fruit trees, berries and kiwis. Joe had to make a huge cage around our fruit trees to protect them from monkeys and baboons. We are working on our veggie patch in the caged area and getting our soil just perfect for growing vegetables. Joe also erected a chicken coup and the chickens are blessing us with delicious fresh eggs daily.
